British Values
British Values @ Thorpe Lea
At Thorpe Lea we promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. We want to ensure to ensure children become valuable and fully rounded members of society who treat others with respect and tolerance, regardless of background.
The government set out its definition of British values, encompassing:
- Democracy
- The rule of law
- Individual liberty
- Mutual respect
- Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
We ensure that through our school aims, agreed class charters, curriculum and teaching, we promote respect and tolerance for all cultures, faiths and lifestyles. As educators we have a duty to prepare our children for life in the Britain of today and to keep them safe.
We use the Jigsaw scheme of work for PSHE, in which British Values are mapped comprehensively throughout the curriculum. We have a mapping document available on request, outlining the values covered in each Jigsaw 'piece' across year groups.
